The Changing Face of New Jersey
You can see it in our malls, on our streets and in our schools. New Jersey is becoming increasingly diverse. This site will guide you through a number of data sources to help you see the changes
The primary source of demgoraphic information is the decennial Census. On this site, you'll be able to access for the first time The Star-Ledger's internal Census research tool, which was built so reporters and editors could easily browse the 2000 Census results and make comparisons to 1990 and 1980.
For information that is less comprehensive but more recent, there are other key sources. On this site, you'll be able to browse town by town school enrollment data, a key indicator of how the racial make-up of various communities is changing. And there is a tool to browse statewide data from the Census Bureau's new American Community Survey, a program that will soon replace the decennial Census and provide more complete data on a year by year basis..
