Residential Building Permits

While not cited as often as crime rates and tax rates, building permit data is another vital measure of a community. The permits represent the number of new housing units local officials have authorized for construction. While the actual construction often lags behind the issuing date, almost all housing permitted is built eventually. This data is updated regularly by the New Jersey Department of Labor.
